Selecting the Correct Hot-Dipped Galvanized Wedge Anchor
There are many important things to consider when preparing to use galvanized wedge anchors in a concrete application. Anchor sizes as well as the spacing between two anchors are two essential aspects to take into account to ensure proper and safe usage of wedge anchors. The required length of a wedge anchor will depend on the thickness of the material to be fastened, the minimum embedment for the anchor length as well as the thickness of the nut and washer. Spacing between two anchors and between an wedge anchor and each unsupported edge is also important for safe installation and proper holding values. An anchor's diameter will also play a major role in the correct bit size to use as well as accurate fixture hole size and wrench size.
Length of Hot-Dipped Galvanized Wedge Anchor:
To determine the length of anchor that is needed for your application. Add the thickness of material to be fastened to the minimum embedment for the diameter being used, plus 1/2”, plus the thickness of the nut and washer. This will give you the minimum length of anchor required.
Spacing of Galvanized Wedge Anchors:
As a rule of thumb, the concrete anchor industry has established a minimum of ten (10) anchor diameters for spacing between anchors and five (5) anchor diameters from an unsupported edge. When vibration or sudden impact are part of the load conditions anchor spacing should be increased.
